Bruce Katz Band
TBS co-sponsored show!
"Back In Boston Live" is the newest album from the legendary keyboardist Bruce Katz and his dynamic band. For this "live" album, Bruce returned to his former hometown of Boston, where his career began and flourished, where he played with Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Mighty Sam McClain and a whole scene of Boston musicians. Bruce also taught at Berklee School of Music and took the "Green Line" to the campus. Recorded over two nights at The Fallout Shelter, this album has nine original tunes and two classic"cover" tunes. One of the band's strengths has always been its wide-ranging and diverse approach to American Roots Music and this album does not disappoint, moving thru Blues, Soul-Jazz, New Orleans R&B and "Jam" influenced music. The immediacy and excitement of their live performances shine throughout this album.
Jesse Williams, (North Mississippi Allstars, Jimmy Vivino and many others) plays on five songs and was the natural choice and perfect fit for this album. Full-time touring members of the band Aaron Lieberman (guitar, vocals) and Liviu Pop (drums) have never sounded better, playing with the assurance and musical telepathy that only comes from playing the music night after night.
A highlight on this album is a version of The Allman Brothers' classic instrumental "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", a nod to Bruce's background as a member of Gregg Allman's, Butch Trucks' and Jaimoe's bands. The album celebrates Bruce's fresh and spontaneous approach to writing and playing, both soulful and surprising at the same time. In 2023 Living Blues Magazine observed, "Katz's eclecticism and top-notch musicianship makes him a treasure in today's music scene. The Bruce Katz Band clearly loves making music together." Back In Boston Live clearly establishes the band as one of the most original and exciting groups on the scene today. Katz has created another Masterpiece.
