Andrew Marlin, Miles Andrews and Tommy Edwards
January 10, 2016 · 5-7pm/NO Cover
Andrew Marlin and Tommy Edwards love to play music together. Unfortunately, their busy schedules seldom allow them the opportunity to do so. Andrew is one half of the Americana super duo Mandolin Orange which records and tours almost incessantly, having played in Colorado, New York and Norway in just the last month. Tommy performs frequently in the Triangle as a soloist, in the trios Carolina Lightnin’ and Tommy Edwards and Friends and with his “big” band of 45 years, The Bluegrass Experience. Each plays several instruments including guitar, banjo and mandolin and both are accomplished singers and songwriters. They appreciate the traditional stringed music of the brother duets of the thirties and forties, the songs of country music pioneers the Carter Family and the music of Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys and other bluegrass founding fathers. The 27 year old Marlin and the septuagenarian Edwards (who met in Jerry Brown’s “Rubber Room” recording studio only a few years ago) seem an unlikely duo, but their reverence for roots music, their freewheeling interpretations of traditional tunes and their energetic instrumental imaginings have won the respect of fans and critics alike. Joining them at The Blue Note Grill is rock steady bass powerhouse Miles Andrews, the rhythmic foundation of regional favorite, Big Fat Gap. And he sometimes adds a third voice to the proceedings! If you like high energy roots music, you will enjoy Marlin, Edwards and Andrews!
