Tommy Edwards and Friends
May 24, 2018 · Thursday * 7pm * NO Cover
Tommy performs frequently in the Triangle as a soloist, in the trios Carolina Lightnin’ and Tommy Edwards and Friends and with his “big” band of 45 years, The Bluegrass Experience. Each plays several instruments including guitar, banjo and mandolin and both are accomplished singers and songwriters. They appreciate the traditional stringed music of the brother duets of the thirties and forties, the songs of country music pioneers the Carter Family and the music of Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys and other bluegrass founding fathers.
The 27 year old Marlin and the septuagenarian Edwards (who met in Jerry Brown’s “Rubber Room” recording studio only a few years ago) seem an unlikely duo, but their reverence for roots music, their freewheeling interpretations of traditional tunes and their energetic instrumental imaginings have won the respect of fans and critics alike.
You never know which of Tommy’s friends will show up to play!
