Magnolia Still

May 15, 2016  ·  Sunday * 5-7pm * NO Cover

You won’t find a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than with a 5-piece string band of bluegrass, old time, and Americana music – that includes guitar, banjo, fiddle, upright bass, washboard, and stunning 3 part harmonies.

Magnolia Still began playing together in October 2014 when Caroline met Meg and Sarah at a bluegrass jam at The Hive in downtown Raleigh. Caroline grew up singing harmony while her mother played piano. Caroline was introduced to bluegrass music in British Columbia Vancouver Island, and she immediately decided to learn clawhammer style banjo. Meg began singing when a good friend asked her to sing alongside his bluegrass band in Boulder, CO. She quickly realized there wasn’t much else that made her happier than singing, and decided to make music a central part of her life. Sarah grew up listening to her father jam with his friends in rural Indiana. When she was nine she picked up his mandolin and guitar and began to teach herself with bluegrass songbooks. Magnolia Still celebrates the rich traditions of bluegrass music while putting new twists on old favorites and making new ones sound old. In their music you’ll hear rich three part harmony, powerful vocals, and spirit and soul with roots deep in bluegrass tradition
