Blue Shirt Party!
June 9, 2019 · Sunday * 5-7pm * NO Cover
Nearly two years in the making, ‘Blue Shirt’ is Rebecca Newton’s first solo record in her 40+ year career as a North Carolina musician. Produced and engineered by 40 year music veteran Jerry Brown (Rubber Room, Chapel Hill), most of the tunes were arranged by Andrew Marlin (Mandolin Orange). Andrew played and sang on most of the cuts, as well. Jerry brought in a phenomenal rhythm section with Rob Ladd (drums), Robert Sledge (bass) and James Anthony Wallace (keys). There are appearances from 15 or more NC and national musicians, including Don Dixon and Rod Abernethy on the title track. Clyde Edgeton’s liner notes alone are worth the price of the record. Rebecca covered a few of her colleagues including Jonathan Byrd, Wes Collins, Barry Gray, and Sam Frazier. She also covered national recording artist/songwriter Jude Johnstone’s “Quiet Girl.”
To quote Clyde Edgerton: Get in a room with somebody you love and then listen. Or just get in a room and listen. Or just listen. Or just get in a room–but then go listen. You will find parts of yourself you’ve forgotten: gifts from Rebecca Newton.
Musicians performing at the Blue Shirt Party TBA.
