Four celebrated songwriters gather for a night of original music and the stories behind the songs.
Alice Gerrard is known for her groundbreaking collaboration with Appalachian singer Hazel Dickens during the 1960s and ’70s when the duo produced four classic LPs. A tireless advocate of traditional music, Alice has won numerous honors, including an International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Distinguished Achievement Award, a Virginia Arts Commission Award, the North Carolina Folklore Society’s Tommy Jarrell Award, and an Indy Award. Her 2015 album, Follow the Music was nominated for a 2015 Grammy. In 2017 Alice was inducted into the IBMA Hall of Fame along with Hazel Dickens.
Wyatt Easterling first came to Nashville as a folk singer and signed with former CBS label head Rick Blackburn. Blackburn brought him on as head of A&R at Atlantic Records where Wyatt signed some of country music’s biggest names. In time, Wyatt signed as a writer with DreamWorks Publishing, API and EMI where he had numerous songs recorded by the likes of Dierks Bentley and Joe Diffie. He was twice a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk contest, and he’s since recorded three albums: Where This River Goes, Goodbye, Hello, and Divining Rod.
Kirk Ridge’s songs have been featured on NPR’s Car Talk and Belfast’s Celtic Roots Radio. His lyrics have been published in American Songwriter Magazine and he has written music for Cary Playwrights Forum productions. Kirk is the Durham Arts Council’s performance director for Durham CenterFest and hosts the weekly “Pass The Hat” live music radio show on WHUP. He also produces songwriters’ stages for the NC Songwriters Co-op at Festival for the Eno, Carrboro Music Festival, and other events.
Abby Davis is an engaging up-and-coming singer/songwriter drawing on a lifetime of musical experience from being a member of a family of talented musicians. She writes acoustic rock blues and soul music that is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Soundcloud. Abby has performed on WHUP radio and plays regularly in venues across the triangle
