August 29, 2019 · Thursday * 7-9:30 pm * NO Cover
Four celebrated songwriters gather for a night of original music and the stories behind the songs.
One of North Carolina’s iconic songwriters, Nancy Middleton gained national recognition with her album “The Way I Do”. After a successful move to Nashville, she returned home to Durham to continue her career as one of the most popular performers in the area. www.nancymiddletonmusic.com
Mary Johnson Rockers ranges from soft twang with impeccable harmonies to driving rock rhythms, drawing in fans of indie, folk and country alike. Her band Nantahala makes harmony-rich music that draws from mountain roots, soul, and modern country. www.nantahalamusic.com
Leah Kaufman’s songs start with articulate guitar playing and then layer on an ear-catching voice that pulls you right inside each song’s story. Her newest CD, “Midnight Refrain”, shows her range from a Cole Porter type love song to an up tempo finger-style blues of a hobo’s tales.
Karyn Oliver is part Joan Osborne, a touch of Janis Joplin and a bit of Emmylou Harris – her seductive voice effortlessly oscillates from bluesy soul to country and back. Her new album, “A List Of Names”, is currently charting on both Folk (#8 in February!) and Americana radio.
