On the Road Again….to the 33rd International Blues Challenge in Memphis!

Congratulations to our 2016 winners, Ruth Wyand in the solo/duo category and Good Rocking Sam in the band category. We need your help sending this talent to the national competition in Memphis end of January, so come out and support that effort.

Good Rocking Sam plays what they call “modern blues with deep roots.” Most of their songs are originals, drawing inspiration from Memphis soul to Chicago and Texas blues artists of the 1950’s and 60’s. Highly dance-able and a pleasure to listen to.

Ruth Wyand performs a range of originals, classics, and blues to acoustical versions of Jimi Hendrix songs. Drawing on American roots music to frame her lyrics, she demonstrates her strengths as a guitarist, songwriter and vocalist.

Winners compete locally all over the world in two categories – solo/duo and band – to win the right to travel to Memphis, Tennessee to further compete and raising funds will help defray the costs that come out of the artist’s own pockets.

The 2017 International Blues Challenge (IBC) will be held from January 31st to February 4th, 2017 in Memphis, TN. The International Showcase will open the event on January 31 with competition rounds on February 1-3 in venues located along historic Beale Street. The world’s largest gathering of Blues acts compete for cash, prizes, and industry recognition and represent an international search by The Blues Foundation and its Affiliated Organizations for the Blues Band and Solo/Duo Blues Act ready to take their act to the international stage.

Triangle Blues Society (TBS), a 501 (c3) organization, is an all-volunteer non-profit organization working together to support, promote, and grow blues music in the greater Raleigh-Durham North Carolina area. TBS has been an affiliate of the Blues Foundation since 1996.
